The most important things for this recipe are to get a pork shoulder with good fat distribution, and to brine said shoulder overnight. Both steps will keep the pork moist during the long cooking. After brining, wash the pork and rub with your favorite dry rub . Bake at 300 for 6 hours . Yes, it’s a long time. Yes, it’s worth it. And at least it’s low maintenance!
The pork should be very tender, and easy to pull with some forks or your fingers.
Serve on hamburger buns with BBQ sauce and slaw if desired.
Oven BBQ Pulled Pork Recipe
Prep time: 10 minutes active + overnight bringing
Bake time: 6 hours
1. Combine the molasses, salt, and water in a large sealable container until everything is well combined. Add the pork roast, seal well, and let brine in the fridge overnight, or up to 12 hours.
2. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Remove pork from brine, rinse well with water, and pat dry. Place in a baking pan lined with aluminum foil.
3. Rub the dry rub thoroughly into the meat. Roast meat for about 6 hours, or until very tender.
4. Pull the meat with forks or your hands. Serve on buns with sauce, if desired.
